before and after front cover image
I have used this photo as my front cover image because i believe, she is showing the correct amount of attitude by rubbing her hands together, She also has direct eye contact with the camera which is inclusive. However this photograph is quite dark and half of her face is missing, So i have decided to edit the photo and manipulate it. I have given it a higher exposure and changed the highlights and contrast.
This is what the photo became after, It is more bright and you can see the models face better.

Music Magazine proposal video / audience feedback
In this video I got some constructive criticisms about the content of my magazine, Someone said it would be repetitive to have the same things in every issue and I took that on board and now I am going to change it to a specific issue which will include the already established artists giving the up and coming artists advice. I will also not limit my audience and make sure that the magazine appeals to everyone and anyone.

Distribution of magazines
On the top row where the music magazines are, The two that stood out to me is MOJO and XXL. so this could be because that is what sells the best in the shop. I have also noticed that they've been placed at the centre of the shelf, This could be because of the amount of competition that goes on between the institutions to keep their place on the shelves so that they are within first eye contact with the customers as people tend to look in the middle. What I have also noticed is that the MOJO magazine came with a free CD which would make people that are into their music want to buy the magazine. On Both the magazines, you can see their mastheads and branding clearly and they both have interesting cover pictures of people that would be interested in that genre of music.
Some other music magazines use various types of distribution methods. They have apps, Online magazines, various social network sites to read about things on etc.

Evaluation
Evaluation
In my college magazine, I believe that the photography went well. However the camera quality I was using was bad, resulting in me having to change the main front cover into a black and white image. I used the photoshop tools to make the image more clear with the blemish tool. I kept the branding the same by keeping the main text the same font on both the front cover and contents page. I have made the cover line as the biggest text so that it is very apparent.
From the feedback I have received, I think I would improve the colours and make it more appealing to the younger audience. I would also add more content to my contents page as it is quite bare.
When producing my main magazine, I will improve by:
- Sticking to a house theme
- Improving my indesign skills by using the tools like the opacity.
- Use a better layout and add more information to both of the pages.

Vibe & NME nmedia kit
Vibe magazine explain their mission of their music magazine, They make it clear that it is youth oriented and is very culturally diverse. They also explain their audience in their mission.
This is a more closer look to their audience and show which age groups, gender and ethnicities read vibe and it comes to show that men read vibe more, and that they are of the Black African American origin, and most of them are between the ages of 21 +
NME
NME, however do not go into depth about their magazine but just show you how to get in touch and have a range of advertisements. But they do target a certain audience who trust in NME,
They also show that they have more male audience that female.
College magazine analysis
In this front cover, it has a mid close up of the model on the front. There is also a clear house style of the colours like yellow blue white and green in the background. The Masthead also behind the models head. The main cover line is written in bold yellow in caps text. There are also teasers in the bottom right corners of the front cover.
The contents page follows through with the house style having yellow colours as sub heads. There are pictures focusing on what is going on in the magazine. It is separated in sections like Academics, Entertainment, Sports and Sex. The font used through out it quite formal and organised keeping it professional.
Case study NME
Cover page
Image
In this front cover of NME magazine lady gaga is the focus mpointand she is wearing a netted outfit with zips on her private parts. This would make the audience feel the need to see what is going to be unzipped in the feature article.
Page layout
The layout of the page is quite busy, lady gaga's name is the biggest text there showing that she is the most important thing in the page. There is a pull quote which has a swear word on it. NME magazine picked this one quote to draw in the audience to make them feel interested in what's going to happen. there is a different house style on this front page as NME is known for the red black and white but in this edition it is blue yellow and white. This is very eye catching and brings in the audience also.
Language
The language used is quite risky as they use a swear word. This could be to connect with the audience as they may be familiar with those types of words and NME purposely put it there to attract their audience because they'd want to know what's going into the magazine.
Contents
Image
In the contents there is a picture of a rock band which is appropriate for the target audience of NME magazine. There is also images of different issues of NME magazine at the bottom as adverts.
Layout
It is laid out with the image taking up most of the space and the contents with page numbers is one side where as band index is on another. it is all sectioned in different subheads of the magazine e.g. features reviews etc. The font is quite bold this could make their readers more intrigued to read what's going to be in the magazine.
Language
The language is quite formal yet fun to fit with the target audience, there is some exclamation marks which suggest shouting and rock songs are quite loud their selves. However it isn't too formal.
Double Page Spread
Image
The image takes up the whole of the left hand side and even leaks on to the text, Lily Allen is wearing a red check shirt which goes with the theme of The contents page. She is posing with her hair scruffy like punk rock people fulfilling the typical look.
Layout
The layout is quite consistent with the columns all being equal lengths and widths. This makes the magazine more professional and organised making it easy for people to read. Both the text and image leak on to one another's page. This could be because they're both as important.
Language
The language in this is friendly to appeal to the audience, However it is also written properly. The font on the headline it is very cut and paste as if it has been stuck straight on the page from other places. This keeps it funky and different. However it leaves no room for the article it self so she may be contradicting her self as she says he doesn't attention seek yet she's centre of attention in the double page spread.
Case study Vibe magazine
Front cover
Image
in the front cover of this magazine there are three artists instead of one, so there is minimal text around them. All three of them are looking directly at the camera, engaging directly with the customers. Their facial expressions show seriousness which may imply that they're very serious about their careers.
convention of page layout
In this front cover, the mast head is positioned behind the artists head to show that they are more important to the magazine as they are the main attraction. There is a lot of space around the image; making it less cluttered and easier to read. All of the teasers are laid out on the bottom left corner of the magazine. Vibe would have done this on purpose because they know the positioning of the magazine on the shelves. That is where the customer would look first. There is a clear house style of yellow black and white. The yellow adds a pop of colour and coincidentally the word 'Pop' is written in yellow. This is very eye catching. Lastly there is a sky line which is laid out very neatly, giving it a professional look.
Language
The language used on the front cover appeals to the target audience, which is ages of 18 - 35, it uses words like 'Big Butt' which is what the audience would be interested in as it is mainly aimed at males.
Contents
Image
The image on this contents page is a highly sexualised. The woman takes up most of the page and she is wearing a swim suit type of clothing. Her legs are in the air and she has a seductive face on. This would attract the audience even more because the first page they turn to is the contents page and it is of a very attractive woman. this would make them want to buy the magazine.
Layout
The 'V' for vibe is still in the contents page which is reinforcing the branding but at the same time is not over powering of the model. She is still made the centre of attention.
The text is seseparatedetween the most interesting thing that is in the magazine. This could be what the customers are looking forward to see in the magazine and in this case it is 'Features' and 'Fashion'
Double Page Spread
Image
The image in the double page spread takes up the whole of the right page. Wiz Khalifa is wearing a yellow hat which follows the theme of the magazine. He has smoke coming out of his mouth and he is well known for smoking cannabis. He also has tattoos which is shown on his neck. This shows that he is fullfilling the hip hop rap look.
Layout
The layout of the page is organised as there are two columns of which both are equal width. The artists initials are in bold and bigger texts which is followed by the subheading of 'How high' This is going back to the known fact that wiz khalifa is known for smoking cannabis. This shows the audience that before even reading the article, they will know it has something to do with smoking weed. The texts used in the page are quite simple which follow the professional trend of the magazine. The artist is interesting enough for people to read so vibe know that they don't really have to go overboard with texts and fonts. From this you can tell that this is an RnB/ Hip-hop magazine aimed at mainly african american males between the ages of 18-35. They may aspire to be just like these artists and may want an insight into their lives and how they got to where they are in life.

this is the front cover of the magazine with the main focal point being JAY - Z. and the writing around him is showing that there will be a cover story on him.
Contents
in this contents page the image used is a rap artist who covers the whole page, its in black and white, hes wearing jewelry and it says 'Top Ballin' on the top.
in this Magazine, there are two contents pages and between them is an double page advert. there are different sections within the contents page. in the contents page with the women, theres an editors letter, theres a page for reviews, etc. The female actress is the focal point of this contents page in underwear to attract the male gaze.
Photoshop Notes
- Use rulers to mark off page.
- Click on layers to move the one you want.
- Colours are changed on the right hand side.
- Use different text box for each word to avoid gapping between words.
- Save front cover as JPEG to upload as image.

Evaluation
Evaluation
During the making of the journalistic writing, I had to do
some research regarding the celebrities opinions on whether music piracy is
wrecking the music industry. I went on the internet and looked for celebrities
that had a big influence on music and saw their opinions. I found articles on
what music artists like Lily Allen thought about it as she has been affected. I
then went on other websites that raised up the issue about music piracy and saw
the facts and figures. I believe that this is a strength of my research but I think
I could have improved by adding more to it.
My journalistic and writing skills were okay however I believe
it could have been better if I wrote as if I was in a newspaper rather than
making it like an essay. I think that my strengths on this would be that I know
how to structure and string sentences together in an eloquent way. But I would
say my weakness would be the amount of detail I put into it.
I have learned many things on InDesign and I have learned how
to drop images into a box, I have learned how to make text boxes and how to keep
all of them the same width. On InDesign I have learned how to turn a one page
spread into a double page spread and keep both of them the same size. I have
also learned how to change the colours on the background of the pages and how
to change the colours of fonts. However I feel that I’m not equipped enough to
use the database to the best of its ability. I believe that with more practice,
that I would be able to maximise my skills on InDesign.
I have gained some skills on web publishing as I have learned
how to make blog, I have learned how to design it, I have learned how to upload
on to it and I’ve also learned how to put work on there. However I think that I
have more weaknesses than strengths because I haven’t used the blog a lot and I
think that with time I will have more strengths than weaknesses. However I have
skills on how to use it.
I think that based on the weaknesses I have identified; that I
need to add more facts and figures to my journalistic writing, improve the style
of which I write in, and add more details. I feel that I should also make myself
get used to InDesign and the blog by using it more and making myself familiar
with it.
